Layla has always been passionate about sport and exercise
In school she would engage in P.E. and Games lessons avidly, being a member of the school’s Netball team, as well as a local Under 16’s team, and being offered a place in the County team. Although she then took a path down the acting route, progressing to her degree in Performing arts, completed in 2009, she was still an active Netball player for the university, and even spent her final year as the Assistant to the Athletic Union Officer, supporting their role.
Layla then, without even realizing at first, embarked on a career in sport in the Outdoor Education sector, working for activity companies like PGL and undertaking a traineeship with Gwent Outdoor Centres in 2010, gaining qualifications in instructing a range of outdoor activities, including rock climbing, canoeing/kayaking, orienteering and archery!
In 2012 she joined Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team, and volunteered as a hill member for 5 years! Here Layla was able to continue exploring her passion for sports and the outdoors through the people she was lucky to meet there! Inspired by other team members, Layla undertook her first half marathon in 2014, and again in 2015 and 2016, as well as jetting off around parts of the UK and Europe, learning to ski and snowboard and ice climb! Layla continued working in the industry for a few years before life and her own health stopped her doing the things she loved.
From 2016, Layla started to struggle again with her mental health, as well as physical, so the sports gear got retired pending investigations through the GP and Primary Care Services.
Layla began her personal journey back into exercise after joining a local dance fitness class in 2019. Where she found the passion for exercise again, and that her physical health was holding up, and getting better! Here is where Layla really got to grips with her Mental Health, finding that there was almost nothing a good hard dance when feeling low.
In 2022, Layla was able to become a Dance Fitness instructor, through a franchising opportunity, and share her experience with others by running her own classes in the Pontypool and Cwmbran areas of Torfaen. After starting her own classes,, she began to wonder if there was more she could be doing personally, to help her class members. Undertaking Mental Health First Aid training was the first step! From there Layla began to look into options for qualifications in sport fitness, to embark on a career in sports once again.
So in July 2023, a single moment changed everything, it sparked something new... PepFit was born!
Layla began to craft her own dance fitness routines, in her own way, and begin making the plans needed to transition the class to PepFit DanceFit. The first ‘PepFit’ class launched in September 2023, as she also began her studies and activities needed to gain her qualifications in Exercise to Music and Gym Instructing, to ensure that the services she is providing are backed by recognised qualifications, to give you peace of mind in choosing PepFit for your needs!
PepFit introduced a second weekly DanceFit class in January 2024, in association with Simply Pilates with Catherine, a venture that is proving fruitful for everyone involved in the joint classes on Sunday mornings!
PepFit is also currently in discussions around a Kids DanceFit, as well as joining other businesses for events, and generally networking with the amazing businesses in the area!
This is where PepFit is now!
